Can Red-tailed Shark fish live in soft water and still develop there full color and survive?

I am Starting a small communitee of fish in my 45 gallon tank to start i plan to get a red-tailed Shark fish but the other fish i selected requre soft water and i wanted to know if my shark could live in the soft water.
