how would salt water affect a celery stock’s intake of water?

I put a peice of celery into a jar with food coloring and salt water. The celery did not absorb any of the salt water. (in my other experiment where I used un-salted water, the celery turned colors. )

Should there be a significant color change when Lugol solution is added to 10mL of cold, distilled water?
