what is the source of coloring in water having corrosion prodcts such as iron oxides or salts?

in a refinery ,there is a closed cooling system having distilled water and it has about 15 ppm total iron (corrosion product).the color of solution is brown .Is the color resulter fom iron oxide or another source?

the solutions have to able to be done in class so they have to be easy….
if you know how to reduce color and odor that would be a very big help

why do some markers not separate in water?and what would you use to separate such markers?

when you put a black dot on a piece of white paper,and put it in water,the black bleeds into many different colors…usually…some markers don’t separate,why is that?
