What is the best detergent for colors?

I absolutely love black jeans but Im so afraid to wash them because they always fade and I have to buy more and Im sure you can see where Im going with this. My mother always buys Gain and I can see that it doesnt work too well with colors. Is there some kind of booster I have to put in the water or what? Whats your experiences? Thanks a bunch!
